2012 ARE Review Seminars

Studying for the ARE? The AIA East Bay can help! We offer an annual review series for candidates preparing for the ARE. Classes are grouped so you can take the review session, identify and improve areas of weakness, and then take the exam before studying new topics.

Chapter members can check out PPI & other Study Materials from our ARE Lending Library. Two items may be borrowed at a time for 72 hours. Contact us for more information.

AIA members and allied professionals bring their years of knowledge and experience to an informative review session for those familiar with the basic material covered in each section of the exam. At the end of each class students evaluate the course content and materials, as well as the presenter's knowledge and presentation skills. This ensures the quality of the program is high from year to year.

All lecture sessions will be held in the chapter office or the auditorium of the Elihu Harris State Office Building, both at 1405 Clay Street. See Map for directions.

Frequently Asked Questions about the ARE Seminar Series

Do ARE Seminars contribute to my IDP Supplementary Education?

Yes, AIA East Bay ARE Seminars can provide training units for your IDP Supplementary Education. Most AIA East Bay ARE Seminars qualify for CES Learning Units. Each hour of your seminar counts as one CES Learning Unit. Each CES Learning Unit earns 0.25 IDP training units. You must submit an AIA transcript to NCARB. You do not need to be employed to earn credit. You must attend all seminars for each class in order to receive CES credit. See the seminar schedule above for which seminars qualify.

I don't want to use my credit card online.

While PayPal does offer secure online-credit card transactions, we realize some people prefer to mail in a check. Therefore, feel free to mail or walk-in your registration and check. Also, you can walk-in to the office and pay by credit card.

Will I receive course materials before the seminar?

All attendees that register more than 48 hours prior to a Saturday or weekday seminar will receive a reminder email, including a PDF of the handouts, the day prior.

How can I become a member of AIA East Bay?

If you live and/or work in Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Solano County or Napa County you can join AIA East Bay. If you're currently a member in another AIA chapter but qualify for membership in the AIA East Bay you can download a transfer form here. If you live and work outside of our chapter and wish to be a member, please contact us.

I'm a member of another AIA chapter. Why don't I get the full AIA discount?

Members of other chapters receive member discounts; our Chapter Members receive a deeper discount.

I'm not a member of AIA East Bay, but my firm is. Do I get the chapter member rate?

Yes! If your firm is an AIA East Bay Member Firm (call 510/464-3600 x.11 to confirm), simply enter the firm's name in the "Member Number" position of the registration form.

I registered but now I can't make it. Can I get a refund?

Since AIA East Bay has to make a commitment to compensate the instructors, we regret we cannot give full refunds. However, you can transfer your registration to someone else. Refunds are as follows:

Refund Information:

100% refund given if cancelled more than two weeks prior to class.

80% refund given if cancelled more than seven days prior to class.

No refund given if cancelled seven days or less prior to class.

Are food and beverages included in registration costs?

No--this helps keep seminar fees reasonable.

Are there hotels nearby? Where should I stay?

There are many hotels and motels in downtown Oakland and Jack London Square. You can look at them at www.expedia.com.

Where can I park? What's the nearest BART Station?

We strongly recommend you take advantage of the BART. We are one block from the 12th Street City Center BART station. If you decide to drive, there are numerous parking garages within a block of the chapter office. The Clay Street Garage, between 14th & 15th Streets, is free on Saturdays and Sundays, and opens at 9:30am on the weekend.

Are review books included in the cost of the session?

Course materials are included in the cost of the session. However, we encourage you to supplement your preparations with the PPI/Ballast materials as well. They are available for 72-hour loan to all chapter members on a first-come basis. Non-members are free to use them as reference materials in the chapter office (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm). You can purchase them online. Save 15% on PPI study materials here.

I have more questions. Who can help me?

Call us at 510/464-3600.
