ARE Seminars

The AIA East Bay offers a lecture series for candidates preparing for the ARE computer-based registration examinations and for licensed California architects needing to fulfill continuing education requirements in the Health, Safety, and Welfare Category. All lecture sessions will be held in the chapter office or the auditorium of the Elihu Harris State Office Building, both at 1405 Clay Street. See Map for directions.

Each year, the AIA East Bay offers a seminar series to help candidates get ready for the licensing exam given by the California Architects Board. AIA members and allied professionals bring their years of knowledge and experience to an informative review session for those familiar with the basic material covered in each section of the exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I register and pay as I take the classes?

As long as your register and pay for the classes in advance as you go a long, that's fine. If you plan on taking all of the classes you will save money by registering for the Full Series in advance.

If you are registering by mail, please send in a separate registration form with each payment that you make. Do not circle all the classes you plan to take without sending payment for all classes circled (ie., don't send partial payments).

I don't want to use my credit card online

While Acteva does offer secure online-credit card transactions, we realize some people prefer to mail in a check. Therefore, feel free to mail or walk-in your registration and check. Also, you can walk-in to the office and pay by credit card.

How can I become a member of AIA East Bay?

If you live and/or work in Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Solano County or Napa County you can join AIA East Bay . If you're currently a member in another AIA chapter but qualify for membership in the AIA East Bay, please contact your current chapter if you'd like to transfer your membership.

What’s the schedule for the Structures seminar?

We're working that out with David Thaddeus, AIA. Sign up for an email announcement to get the schedule asap.

I'm a member of another AIA chapter. Why don't I get the full AIA discount?

Members of AIA East Bay receive full discounts for the ARE series; AIA Santa Clara Valley  members receive full discounts for the Structures class. Members of any other AIA chapter do receive a member-discount off the registration price.

I registered but now I can't make it. Can I get a refund?

Since AIA East Bay has to make a commitment to compensate the instructors, we regret cannot give full refunds.

Refund Information:

80% refund given if cancelled more than two weeks prior to class.

40% refund given if cancelled more than seven days prior to class.

No refund given if cancelled seven days or less prior to class.

Are food and beverages included in registration costs?

No.

Are there hotels nearby? Where should I stay?

There are many hotels and motels in downtown Oakland and Jack London Square . You can look at them at www.expedia.com.

Where can I park? What's the nearest BART Station?

We strongly recommend you take advantage of the BART. We are one block from the 12th Street City Center BART station. If you decide to drive, there are numerous parking garages within a block of the chapter office.
