The AIA East Bay Chapter committees provide an opportunity for interested individuals to become involved in the work of the Chapter and to work with others to pursue issues and interests. Get involved with a committee--email Sidney Sweeney.

ARE Task Force

Develops and evaluates chapter ARE review seminars. Also hosts occasional programs and panel discussions on the topic of the ARE.

ARCHNews Editorial Board

 
  Edits and organizes publishing of ArchNews, the monthly newsletter of the Chapter, for purpose of informing Chapter members and the public of upcoming meetings, professional seminars, Chapter and AIA activities and other items of interest.
  Chair: Harry Jacobs, AIA  
     
Emerging Professionals Committee  
  Focusing on building a community among young pre-licensure professionals, this group addresses the needs and concerns of area Associate members. This committee works with local emerging professionals organizations to maximize the value of the AIA for associates and interns. It also organizes events and programs of interest to unlicensed professionals and students and the  ARE Review Seminars.

Codes Committee  
  Addresses the concerns of the memebership regarding codes and regulatory issues. Organizes educational programs to education architects and the A/E/C community on codes issues. A Codes Forum is held the last Thursday of the month at noon. Click here to join the Google Group.

Committee on the Environment (COTE) Forum  
  Promotes environmental leadership among architects; seeks to make environmental considerations and sustainable design integral to the practice of architecture. Open to all.

Design Awards  
  The AIA East Bay Design Awards program recognizes and celebrates design excellence in the Bay Area, California, and beyond. The Design Awards Committee is responsible for overseeing the program's direction and budget, selecting the jury members, developing the Call for Entries, and faciliating the jury meeting and awards presentation. In addition, the Design Awards Committee works with staff to promote Design Award winners in the local media and continue to dialogue of design exellence with the public.

Fellows Committee  
  The Fellows Committee aids in the selection of appropriate Chapter members for advancement to fellowship according to criteria established by AIA. Supports and advises fellowship candidates in materials preparation.
   Chair: Rosemary Muller, FAIA  
     
Government Relations  
  Dedicated to advancing the architect's position in design, practice, and sustainable and livable communities at the local, state, and federal levels. Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with political representatives and elected officials within the chapter boundaries.
   
   
Historic Preservation  
  Monitors and manages issues of preserving the built environment; works with government and allied preservation programs.

Professional Practice Forum  
  Organizes and conducts discussions among firm employees and principals on issue regarding the business of architecture. Generally meets the third Thursday of the month at noon. Open to all.

Events Committee  
  The Events Committee oversees chapter-wide membership events including monthly chapter meetings, design tours and the annual membership appreciation party.

Recognition Advisory Group  
  The Recognition Advisory Group monitors the activities and contributions of chapter members and local citizens and organizations, whose work enhances the practice of architecture and the built environment, exemplifying the goals and ideals of the profession. The Recognition Advisory Group is responsible for making timely recommendations to the Board of Directors for chapter, state and national AIA commendations.

Regional & Urban Design Committee  
  The AIA East Bay Regional and Urban Design Committee (RUD) aims to improve the quality of the urban environment of East Bay cities and surrounding areas by promoting excellence in urban design, land use and transportation planning, public policy, and implementation in the built and natural environment. This will be achieved through education of its member and the public, in concert with allied community and professional groups; and as appropriate, by providing design and planning assistance to communities of the greater East Bay.

Small Firm Forum  
  Organizes and conducts discussion among small firm principals about relevant issues of practice within the design and construction industry. Meets the first Thursday of the month at Noon in the chapter office. Open to all.

Women in Architecture Forum

              Organizes and conducts discussion among women in the A/E/C profession about relevant issues of practice within the                       design and construction industry. Meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:00pm in the chapter office. Open to all.

Young Architects Forum

              Organizes and conducts discussion among architects licensed in the past 10 years about relevant issues of practice within     the design and construction industry. Meets the third Tuesday of the month at 6:00pm in the chapter office. Open to all. Click here to join the Google Group.
