Eligibility
Completed projects of any size located in Alameda , Contra Costa, Solano
and Napa Counties may be submitted by any registered architect.
Projects outside the AIA East Bay area may be submitted by AIA
East Bay members only.
Projects must have been built and must have been completed since January
1, 1999.
Projects that have won earlier design awards, other than previous AIA
East Bay design award winners, or that have been previously published,
remain eligible.
Projects designed by joint venture or associated architects should be
submitted by one firm only; credit for all design participants is to
be noted in the concealed identification form.
Submission
Requirements
The AIA East Bay will provide each entrant with a Submission Binder,
into which all required documents, including Descriptive
Data Sheet, drawings, color photographs and CD, shall be displayed.
A separate binder will be
provided for each project submitted. Pages may not be added to the binder,
but both sides of each page may be used.
Entrants may download and
complete the
Descriptive Data form and Concealed
ID forms on their own computers.
Submissions must include
8.5” x 11” copies of a site plan, floor plan(s), elevation and section
drawings, and a context photo. Additionally, at least 7 pages of color
photographs (formatted to fit in 8.5”x11” binder pages) of the project
in its completed state are required. Please include at least one “before”
photo for remodel projects.
Entrants shall submit a
CD containing electronic files of all of submitted documents (including
the Descriptive
Data and
Concealed ID) and a minimum of 10 photographs saved in
JPEG format at a resolution of 100 dpi, with the largest image side
no less than five inches . Slides will not be accepted. Firms
of winning projects must be able to submit high resolution EPS
files of all documents. Please keep all images separate and not grouped
together.
Please note on the SURFACE
of the disk which one photo should be used for the Reception Presentation.
In addition entrants should also use this image in the first
sleeve position of the submittal binder.
Entrant’s name and firm
name must not appear on any of the submitted documents, including the
CD. If the authorship is revealed on any of the photos, plans, slides,
or narrative, the entry must be disqualified.
Please write Entry Number
on CD-Rom. Please title images in the following format: EntryNumber-Image0X.tif
(e.g. 131- Image05.tif)
Entrants will be notified
in the beginning of 2008 when submissions are available to be picked
up at the Chapter office. The Chapter will not assume responsibility
for returning the submissions; submissions not retrieved by June 1,
2008 will become the property of AIA East Bay .
The Chapter may retain winning
submissions up to two years.
All firms with winning projects
will be required to supply a 30”x30” exhibit board by August 10, 2007
Judging
Criteria
Each
entry in the AIA Design Awards program is judged for the success with
which the project has met its individual requirements. Entries
are judged individually, not in competition with each other.
Publicity
It is
essential that there be no restriction against publication and reproduction
of drawings and photographs. Neither the Chapter nor other publishers
will assume responsibility for copyrights, design credit, or photographic
fees. Submitting firms are required to obtain publication rights for
photos submitted.
Before
entering, entrants must have owner’s approval to submit the project.
Owners must be informed of the significant recognition in the media
should the project be awarded.
