4/25/2008 Designer/IT Guru 5-7 Years of Experience Required
Position Description:
Avila Design, a growing architectural firm located in Downtown Berkeley seeks a CAD/IT specialist. The candidate will implement architectural and IT standards as well as improve the productivity and quality of our AutoCAD based design studio. Candidates must possess a Bachelors Degree in architecture or an architecturally-related degree. Of course, if you have engineering and/or computer science experience

that is a plus that will get you big brownie points but probably not a higher salary. The successful candidate will have minimum AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop/Windows experience of 5 to 7 years as well as hands-on computer troubleshooting knowledge. Although AD is an AutoCAD office, experience with other design software or CAD programs including: VectorWorks, Google SketchUp, Revit, HTML and FLASH are a big plus. Unfortunately, we cannot consider candidates that do not have previous experience implementing CAD standards in a design firm. An understanding of building construction will give you an advantage over other candidates. If you know how big a 4 x 8 is you go directly to the head of the line! Because construction documents represent about 40 percent of the architectural process, you should expect to spend about 40 percent of your time each week on architectural related assignments and the remaining time on IT projects.

The CAD/IT specialist will develop and implement all of the firm’s technology processes including: staff training, software customization and hardware maintenance/enhancement. In addition to establishing drawing standards and protocol, the CAD/IT specialist will evaluate and launch the firm’s migration from a two dimensional based practice to an integrated design software based office that fully embraces technology as a way to differentiate itself within the architectural design community.

So, if this sounds like the right place for you to apply your training in design and passion for technology, we should meet with you real soon. Thank you for your consideration.
